An Introduction to Lexington Latin School

LLS began in 2003 with Mrs.Jeannie Davis, LLS Founder, teaching Latin and Roman Studies to two children at her kitchen table. Thus, our school began with Mrs. Davis’ faithfulness and her belief in the power of a Christian, classical, and traditional education to instill wisdom and develop virtue in young minds.

Today, LLS boasts a full, five-day curriculum with three days of instruction and two days of home assignments for Kindergarten through 12th grade as well as a two-day program for Junior Kindergarten.

Our Mission

In partnership with parents, and guided by the Gospel, we strive to educate students to the highest standards of the classical tradition. We seek to form students intellectually and spiritually through a love of goodness, truth, and beauty so that they may grow in wisdom, virtue, and the love of Our Lord, and more ably use their gifts in the service of others, and for the glory of Christ and his Church.

“A classical education aims at producing students who love good things deeply.”

—Joshua Gibbs

An Education that Forms the Mind and Soul

What’s the goal of your child’s education? Better still, what’s the purpose of your child’s life? This second question may seem a bit grand or dramatic, but it’s not really much different than the first.

The way we teach students reflects what we think our students' lives are about. This is true not just here at LLS but anywhere students gather to learn.

At LLS, education is far more than academic instruction. As Christians we believe the purpose and fulfillment of a human life is to love and serve our God. However, what we do with our lives—what we put into our minds and how we live—will either help or hinder our love of God. For this reason, classical Christian education seeks to set students’ hearts and minds on what is good, true, and beautiful in the great ideas, art, and books passed down to us. Through this great tradition, we seek to form in students Christian character and virtue. Read More about Education as Formation.

  • Truth, goodness, and beauty come from God and they point back to Him. In fact, God is Truth; God is Goodness; and God is Beauty itself. Which means that when we delight in the intricate design of God’s world, are moved by the sacrifice of a literary hero, or hear a beautiful piece of music, we are encountering a little glimpse of God.

  • We are the inheritors of a great tradition of ideas, books, and art passed down by generations before us. Of course, the past isn’t magical and something isn’t great simply by virtue of being old. Rather, the things we call “classical” are those that have lasted, which have stood the test of time. And that is a remarkable thing! After all, time devours everything. Time devours fashions, political movements, and the latest technology. Time devours buildings, landscapes, and entire nations; and, in the end, time devours the lives of each and every one of us. Time marches on and lays waste everything in its wake—except, every now and then, when it doesn’t.

  • As a traditional school, students are led into truth and understanding by wise teachers with a deep love and understanding of their subject. As a result, students first receive the wisdom of the past—from great thinkers and great books—then learn to claim it as their own and let it shape the way they see the world.

Singing sacred music that awakens the soul.

The Story of LLS

THE BELIEF IN SOMETHING BETTER

As stewards of a vision cultivated over two decades, we, the founders of LLS, extend our heartfelt gratitude for the journey thus far. With roots grounded in a Christian, classical, and traditional education, we envision a future where wisdom and virtue thrive, nurturing generations for eternity.

Jeannie Davis
LLS FOUNDER

Mrs. Davis embarked on the LLS journey in 2003 with a belief that education has the power to change lives, train character, develop virtue, and produce wisdom. Her passion began at a kitchen table with just two students and two classes. Today, LLS offers JrK-12th grade on two campuses.

Davis’ faith and passion for the Christian, classical, and traditional method of education is the cornerstone of LLS and it continues to flourish now in the hands of her daughter Cassie Corbett. Read the History of LLS.

Cassie Corbett
